Adolescence is one of the most challenging periods in life, both for teenagers and their parents. It is a time of intense physical, mental, sexual and emotional change. As teenagers age, their allegiance increasingly shifts from parents to peers. Attempts to challenge parental limits occur more and more frequently. To complicate matters further, adolescents are at heightened risk for drug abuse and premature sexual activity.
Dr. Alexander works with adolescents and their parents to improve communication and balance the teenager’s desire for greater freedom with the parents’ desire for greater responsibility. In some cases, Dr. Alexander will work exclusively with parents to help them agree on appropriate discipline. In other cases, Dr. Alexander will work with teenagers separately and/or conjointly with parents.
