PRESENTATIONS AND WORKSHOPS

Listed below are popular topics on which Dr. Alexander has successfully spoken.  He is able to tailor these presentations to best fit your particular needs as well as speak on a wide variety of other topics.

The C’s of Change: Making the Marriage Compact Work
In this presentation, Dr. Alexander presents 12 essential components of successful marriage.  Using clinical vignettes from his practice, clips from popular movies and recent research about marital functioning, Dr. Alexander informs audiences about the importance, among other things, of challenge, family of origin coding, celebration and commitment in making the marriage compact work.

Making the Most of Everyday: A Practical Approach to Stress Management
Car rage, airport fury, workplace burnout…these conditions illustrate how stress continues to dominate the headlines, even as we move further into the new millennium. Many of these conditions are, in fact, well illustrated by clips from contemporary movies which Dr. Alexander shows during this talk.  In this innovative and practical seminar, Dr. Alexander presents information about mindfulness meditation, a new approach to stress management that participants can immediately apply to their lives.

Just Your Type: Using the Myers-Briggs Test for Career and Personal Success
In this presentation and/or workshop, you’ll learn your personality type by first taking the Myers Briggs test.  Dr. Alexander will then discuss how you can apply Myers-Briggs related insights to better your life at home and work.  Just Your Type can be tailored for business and personal contexts, small or large group settings.

Achieving a Healthy Lifestyle in 21 Days
Do you wish you had more energy? Do you dislike the way you feel about yourself? Have you tried without success to break old, unhealthy habits? For those who keep getting lost on the road to wellness, here’s a shortcut.  New exciting scientific research demonstrates that a healthier lifestyle can be achieved in just 21 days.  In this presentation, Dr. Alexander will discuss techniques that can help us meet our personal health goals and stay on the road to better health.

Finding Inner Harmony Through Music
In this engaging presentation Dr. Alexander utilizes his experience as both a psychologist and an award winning musician and songwriter.  He will explore the transformative power of music and how to put it to use in our lives.  Whether you prefer Brahms, the Beatles or even the Beastie Boys, you’ll learn how to use music consciously to create greater inner harmony – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.  When these elements are in tune, we approach life with our full potential.  We can make better decisions.  We have more energy.  We connect with our spiritual selves.  And we’re in charge of our emotions rather than vice versa.

Hollywood’s Take on the Hateful Patient
(for professional audiences) A seminal article by James Groves in the New England Journal of Medicine (April 1978) described four types of “hateful” (or difficult patients).  Such patients tend to evoke unpleasant emotions in caregivers and, if incorrectly handled, can lead to negative outcomes.  Using clips from a variety of movies on video, Dr. Alexander illustrates these patient types, the specific emotions they elicit in healthcare providers and provides tips for successful management.
